WHEN packing for college, it can be easy to focus on the obvious things like clothes, toiletries, and school supplies. But sometimes, it’s the small things you don’t think about that can make your dorm feel so much more comfortable. Here are three things I think every student should consider bringing to campus.

First, get a mattress topper. Dorm beds aren’t exactly known for being the most comfortable, and after a long day of classes, the last thing you want is to struggle to get comfortable in your own bed. A mattress topper can make a huge difference and make your bed feel more like the one you’re used to at home. Trust me, you’ll appreciate it when you’re trying to get some sleep after a late night of studying.

Next, pick up a vase. This might sound random, but having a vase in your room can actually be really useful. Whether you get flowers from a friend, want to decorate your room with fake flowers, or just want something cute to put on your desk, a vase is an easy way to make your space feel more personal. It’s also one of those things you probably won’t think about until you actually need one.

Lastly, add a diffuser. After spending all day going to class, studying, working, or running around campus, it’s nice to come back to a room that feels relaxing, while also masking any smells that come from food. A diffuser can make your room feel more cozy and help it feel like your own space instead of just a dorm room.

College is already a big adjustment, so having a comfortable space to come back to can make a difference. You don’t need to bring everything with you, but these three small things can make your dorm feel a little more like home.
